MADERA COUNTY, Calif. (KFSN) — We have learned the identity of one of the people killed in a deadly New Year’s Eve crash in Madera County.
The California Highway Patrol says an SUV collided with a big rig on Wednesday morning on Road 23 and Avenue 13.
Officers say the driver of the SUV was going west on Avenue 13 when they ran the stop sign and crashed into the side of the big rig.
21-year-old Isabella Marlene Nevarez and the male driver died at the scene.
Three others from the SUV were injured.
Investigators say it appears no one was wearing their seat belts in the SUV, and four of the five people were thrown from the vehicle.
The driver of the big rig was not hurt.
Police say alcohol and/or drugs are expected to be a factor.
