The Traitors’ first banishment deprives fans of a potentially juicy storyline

We currently have few clues as to who is lurking under that red cloak, but let’s speculate anyway. Rachel wondered if Sam’s boldness was a sign that he could be the Secret Traitor. They’ve also wondered about the “dangerously smart” Amanda and “terribly bright” psychologist Ellie.

My own theories at this stage? Fiona or Jessie. Both have handwriting that resembles the shortlist scrolls. Either would equalise the gender balance among the Traitors. And that’s before we get to that final plot twist…

All-male murder hit-list might be a clue

We signed off with the turret trio eyeing up their next murder victim – until they were handed another curveball shortlist. This time, the names were Ben, Reece or Maz – the latter’s second appearance in a row. Somebody’s clearly got it in for the seemingly innocuous civil servant.

The inclusion of Royal Navy veteran Ben could also be significant. Before bedtime, he had voiced frustration about being swayed by others and not voting for his initial choice of Ross. He then joked: “I’ll be up for murder if any of youse are a Traitor.” Ben’s name duly appeared on the list. Present at the time were Ellie, Fiona, Jessie and James (who has already been ruled out). Does this put the three women in the frame as the Secret Traitor? The scarlet plot thickens.

Skulduggery in stats

Best moment: That long pause before the departing Judy confirmed her Faithful status. Who thought they had caught the Secret Traitor at the first time of asking?

Best quote: Just beating Fiona’s “red Baywatch thong” confession was Winkleman to her leather-clad throne-carriers: “Boys! These are my four offspring. Extra cuddles later. Lift me up.”

Best Traitor: None was mentioned or voted for, so they are all still flying under the radar. Cool, collected Rachel appears to be playing the canniest game.

Best Faithful: Amanda not only casually quashed rumours of a relationship with Hugo by announcing that she’s a lesbian, but looks the most likely Traitor hunter. Unless she’s secretly one herself, of course.

Winkleman wardrobe watch: The first breakfast saw a Highland chic combo of a Fair Isle tank top with a long kilt.

Prize pot: A near-maximum £8,750 banked on the throne mission took the prize fund to £18,750 out of a possible £21k. Strong start.

Body count: One murder and one banishment means it’s now four Traitors (one of them unknown) against 16 Faithful.

Next up: Thanks to New Year’s Day landing on a Thursday, there will be a rare Saturday episode tomorrow. Just don’t be caught out by the earlier start time of 7.45pm. Meet you back here to analyse all the Ardross action.
