Who Is Harriet Tyce? Meet The Crime Writer Turned Traitors Star

It’s the start of a new year, which can only mean one thing: it’s time for some new faces to descend upon Ardross Castle as they take part in the ultimate game of deceit. You guessed it: The Traitors is back. Accompanied by Claudia Winkleman and her iconic outfits, a whole new string of contestants are currently taking part in the BBC show, all hoping to make it to the final and it’s £120,000 prize pot. Among the Faithfuls this year who are hoping to figure out the Traitors among them is Harriet Tyce, who has excited fans with her appearance on the show. A former barrister and current crime writer, it didn’t take fans long to decide that Harriet may well be one of the players to watch over the next few weeks.
Taking to X (formerly Twitter), one viewer wrote, ‘They’ve got the actual Harriet Tyce on Traitors UK! Any other crime fiction lovers absolutely losing their mind over this?! LOVE her books, she’s going to smash this.’
Another added, ‘Just realised I have read two of Harriet from The Traitors‘ books. One very clever lady and talented author. I would love her to be the secret traitor!’
So, who is Harriet? From age to career, here’s everything you need to know…
Who is The Traitors season four contestant Harriet?
Harriet Tyce is one of the players currently appearing on this year’s season four of The Traitors. It appears she’ll be bringing some fire to the show, having described herself as being so competitive that Monopoly is banned in her household.
‘My husband and I don’t play Monopoly anymore because it would have led to a divorce after a particularly bad game,’ she joked. ‘I very much like winning. I want to win if I’m doing something, I want to be the best.’
How old is Harriet from The Traitors, and where is she from?
Harriet is currently 52 years old, and comes from London. When she’s not in the Traitors castle, she’s a wife, a mum, and enjoys baking, cooking, and taking care of her two dogs.
What does Harriet from The Traitors do for a job?
If anyone’ career should give them a heads up when it comes to sniffing out Traitors, it’s Harriet.
The Faithful is a former barrister who currently works as a crime writer of psychological thrillers. Some of her books include Blood Orange, The Lies You Told, as well as a new book, titled Witch Trial, which comes out in February.
Admitting she’s ‘really good at putting clues together,’ Harriet said, ‘The Traitors is like the quintessence of people not being who they seem. I might bring an ability to see patterns in people’s behaviour. I might be good because of my criminal barrister training at picking up on inconsistences is what people say.’
However, Harriet’s choosing to keep this news under wraps. For now, the star plans to ‘play down’ her profession in hopes to avoid raising any suspicion. ‘I think it will make me a huge target.’
Is Harriet a Faithful or a Traitor?
With Hugo, Stephen, Rachel, and a secret traitor chosen by Claudia, Harriet remains a Faithful… For now.
Opening up about the thought of becoming Traitor, Harriet said, ‘[I’d be] absolutely delighted because it’s the closest I’ll ever get in real life to plotting murder, and the idea that I can live my job feels like it would be an incredible opportunity. Having said that, being a Faithful is also an opportunity to live my job, just in a different kind of way.’
As for her game plan as a Faithful, Harriet said, ‘I’ll keep the smart ass under wraps and play up the nicer side. I think trying to remain as observant as possible and build up a case, rather than going straight for the kill, would seem to me to be the sensible way of approaching it.’
Of course, Harriet may well be the red cloak secret traitor – but we won’t know that until the end…
How will Harriet spend the prize money?
With £120,000 up for grabs, all players are hoping to make it to the final. For Harriet, she’d put that money towards a good cause.
She shared, ‘I would donate it to the Breast Cancer Research Foundation as many dear friends have been affected by the disease, including one of my best friends who sadly died in 2021 from secondary breast cancer.’
