Buffalo Bills’ final Highmark Stadium game: Sheriff issues warning to fans

The Buffalo Bills will likely play their final game at Highmark Stadium on Sunday when they host the New York Jets. Next season, Buffalo will move across the street to their new stadium and based on the team’s playoff seeding, the odds of hosting a playoff game are slim.
Emotions will be high for Bills fans, but the Erie County Sheriff’s Office is warning the fan base to keep their behavior in check. In a post on Friday, the sheriff’s office warned fans that additional safety and security measures will be in place. The additional safety and security measures will include additional uniformed and undercover personnel, as well as video technology.
“This game will be just as meaningful for our deputies as it is for Bills Mafia, as this stadium holds a special place in our hearts. But we will not be distracted or deterred from providing quality public safety services for fans attending Sunday’s game,” Sheriff John Garcia said in a Facebook post. “The Erie County Sheriff’s Office, New York State Police and Orchard Park Police Department will be in lockstep with security staff in and around Highmark Stadium throughout the day. We will have additional uniformed and undercover personnel, as well as video technology, to ensure a safe environment for fans, players, coaches, officials and staff.”
Sheriff Garcia went on to state that any fan who commits a criminal action on Sunday will be prosecuted to the fullest extent of the law and warned fans against trying to steal stadium property or enter the field area.
“Anyone who commits a violation or criminal action will be prosecuted to the fullest extent of the law,” the statement read. “Deputies will be on alert for fans attempting to damage and/or steal stadium property such as seats, turf and signage. Additionally, any individual attempting to enter the field area prior to, during or after the game will face arrest.”
The statement pointed out that fans have the opportunity to purchase seats, turf and goal posts from the stadium. The Bills’ website has multiple items up for sale in a partnership with Brandon Steiner and CollectibleXchange.
