Tesco and Waitrose shoppers are being urged to check their cupboards and fridges after the Food Standards Agency (FSA) issued recall notices last week.
The FSA has issued notices for five products in the last week, with three Tesco own-brand pates recalled on January 3, 2026 after Waitrose-branded bottles of water were recalled on December 30, 2025.
The products recalled this week (beginning December 29, 2025):
- Tesco Coarse Farmhouse Pate, 170g, use by January 5, 2026
- Tesco Coarse Ardennes Pate, 170g, use by January 5, 2026
- Tesco Smooth Chicken Liver Pate, 170g, use by January 5, 2026
- Waitrose No1 Deeside Mineral Water, 750ml
- Waitrose No1 Deeside Sparkling Water, 750 ml
The Tesco products ‘may pose a microbiological risk, making them unsafe to eat’ because they have incorrect use-by dates on packaging, the FSA notice said: “The products listed above have been labelled with an incorrect ‘use-by’ date printed on the pack. The products may pose a microbiological risk, making them unsafe to eat.”
It went on: “Tesco is recalling the above products. Point of sale notices will be displayed in all retail stores
that are selling these products. These notices explain to customers why the products are being
recalled and tell them what to do if they have bought the products.”
If someone has purchased the affected pate, they should not eat it, instead returning it to a Tesco shop for a full refund, the notice explained.

In the Waitrose case, several batches of 750ml bottles of water have been recalled due to ‘the possible presence of glass fragments upon opening’.
The FSA said: “The product may contain glass which may cause injury and makes it unsafe to drink.
“If you have bought any of the above products do not drink it. Instead, return it to the store from where it was bought for a full refund. For more information contact: Waitrose Customer Care 0800 188 884 Option 4.”
