One of the Most Successful Sci-Fi Thrillers Ever Roars to Life on Streaming

Roughly three months after Jurassic World: Rebirth was released on streaming in October, the original Jurassic World is now experiencing a major surge in streaming worldwide. The 2015 blockbuster was recently added to HBO Max’s January library in select regions, and it has quickly risen to the Top 10 in countries such as Argentina and Colombia. According to FlixPatrol, Jurassic World currently sits at #7 on HBO Max’s global movie charts. It is, however, missing from the American charts because the film isn’t available to stream on HBO Max in the United States.
Over the years, the franchise has become weighed down by messy cloning plots, and the dinosaurs have evolved into hybrid mutants that look more like alien monsters than animals. But the first Jurassic World was truly something special. It was a perfect summer blockbuster that brought the series back from the dead after more than a decade away. A new park was built directly on the ruins of the original, and this version was designed to be bigger, safer, and more profitable. There were tracking implants, reinforced concrete walls, and electric fences designed to prevent history from repeating itself. Still, as Jeff Goldblum‘s Dr. Ian Malcolm famously put it, life finds a way, and the disaster happens all over again.
Modern CGI and 3D effects made the dinosaurs feel more real than ever, and IMAX presentations turned it into the ultimate popcorn movie experience of the summer. The film crossed the billion-dollar mark without breaking a sweat and reached that milestone faster than any movie before it, in just 13 days. It launched a new era for the franchise, and although critics have been harsh on the newer installments, Jurassic World remains the undisputed king of dinosaur movies. Audiences keep showing up, and these movies continue to rake in money worldwide.
The Next ‘Jurassic World’ Movie Will Be Another ‘Rebirth’ Sequel
Rebirth worked as both a sequel and a soft reboot by swapping out Chris Pratt, Bryce Dallas Howard, and the legacy Jurassic Park cast for a new covert ops team led by Scarlett Johansson, Jonathan Bailey, and Mahershala Ali. Previously, director Gareth Edwards emphasized that Rebirth was meant to be a standalone project, but plans appear to be changing. According to The InSneider, Edwards is reportedly now in final negotiations to return for another sequel that will continue the story from Rebirth. Johansson, Bailey, and Ali are all expected to reprise their roles as well.
Jurassic World is available to rent or purchase on Amazon Video in the US. Stay tuned to Collider for more updates.
