Emmerdale’s Emma Atkins opened up about her “soap gold” scene with two iconic ITV legends as Corriedale finally aired.
Actress Emma Atkins joined the cast of Emmerdale in 2000 as Charity Dingle, and although she took a four-year break before returning in 2009, Charity has become a fan favourite in the Dales.
Charity is never too far away from the drama, and the character has found herself in hot water after a one-night stand with Ross Barton led to her falling pregnant.
Of course, as viewers will recall, Charity had promised Jacob and Sarah that she’d be their surrogate, and as far as they’re aware, the baby is theirs.
Charity was confirmed as one of the stars in the major ITV crossover where the worlds of Coronation Street and Emmerdale will merge for an hour-long special episode.
Prior to Corriedale, both soaps aired a 30-minute episode, building up to the drama. Over in the Dales, Mack learned that Charity isn’t carrying the surrogate baby, but thinks it’s his, not Ross Barton’s.
As he chases Sarah and Jacob down in the car as they head to Manchester airport, Charity begged him to stop. However, after Aaron Dingle and John Sugden crashed head-on with Becky, Lisa and Betsy Swain’s car, the two other groups also crashed at the scene.
Fortunately, Charity, Mackenzie, Jacob and Sarah were all fine but at the hospital Charity was seen brushing shoulders with two ITV soap legends.

As the drama unfolded around them, Ken Barlow and Eric Pollard stood at the vending machine, trying to get a free snack among the chaos. With the two icons interacting, Charity appeared and helped them retrieve their sweet treat.
At the Corriedale premiere, Emma touched on this scene and admitted: “I haven’t told my mum yet, but she’ll be absolutely, she’ll be so excited about that because it is, it’s gold soap moment and I’m part of it. So I’m like, that’s pretty cool. And I’m so heavily pregnant as well.”
Director Duncan Foster then reflected on Ken’s involvement, as he told the audience that actor Will Roache had asked to be in the ITV crossover.
He shared: “The other moment was the scene with Bill Roache as Ken Barlow, and I’d known Bill over 25 years, and he came on to set. He was a little bit emotional. He gave me the biggest hug.
“As he was hugging me, I was thinking, you’ve never hugged me before in 25 years, Bill. He was just so thrilled to be in that one scene, and that is one of my favourite scenes from the scenes out there.”
