There have been quite a few changes to major soccer tournament formats across the globe due to expansions so it’s always worth a reminder on the status of things at AFCON.
The tournament began with a group stage of six groups of four (24 teams total), before the top two teams in each group and the four best-ranked third-place teams progressed to the knockout phase.
After the round of 16, which concludes today, there is the standard run of single-leg quarterfinals, semifinals and a final.
