Rolison was the Rockies’ first-round pick (22nd overall) in 2018 out of the University of Mississippi, taken two picks before the Cubs selected Nico Hoerner in that round.
He spent six years in the Rockies system before making his MLB debut last summer with Colorado. The results weren’t great — a 7.02 ERA, 1.772 WHIP, high walk rate, low K rate, 11 home runs allowed in 42.1 innings, yikes.
The Braves acquired Rolison for cash considerations in November and in December, the White Sox claimed him on waivers.
For now, Rolison is a Cub, but I wouldn’t be surprised to see him exposed to waivers by the Cubs at some point, or he could wind up on the Iowa Shuttle. He’s left-handed, so maybe the Cubs see something there that didn’t work for him with the Rockies. He has a pretty standard pitch mix:
