Talismanic Bruno Guimaraes firmly among elite Dream Team midfielders ahead of Newcastle double headers

WE’RE massive fans of BRUNO GUIMARAES (£5.4m) here at Dream Team HQ.

Every couple of months we feel compelled to highlight the quality of Newcastle’s captain and who would deny us at this moment in time given he’s currently the joint-most in-form midfielder in the game?

Guimaraes has banked 35 points from his last three games, the same tally as Kevin Schade (£3.9m) who bagged a hat-trick against Bournemouth in Gameweek 17.

The 28-year-old produced a talismanic captain’s performance to guide the Magpies to a 2-0 win over Crystal Palace at the weekend.

He broke the deadlock in the 71st minute with a close-range header, the least he deserved for another accomplished all-round performance.

Guimaraes also earned three bonus points to pocket 14 points by the final whistle.

The Brazil international pouched 17 points away to Burnley in his previous outing, which also featured a goal and three bonus points.

With seven goals to his name in 2025/26, he has already equalled the best-ever scoring campaign of his career with just under half a season still to play.

Factor in six assists, 20 bonus points plus a healthy tackle count of 49 (ninth among midfielders) and it’s no wonder Guimaraes is now third in the rankings among players in his position.

MOST POINTS AMONG DREAM TEAM MIDFIELDERS THIS SEASON

  • 184 pts – Phil Foden (£5.4m)
  • 179 pts – Bukayo Saka (£6.7m)
  • 172 pts – Bruno Guimaraes (£5.4m)
  • 156 pts – Dominik Szoboszlai (£4.8m)
  • 155 pts – Declan Rice (£5.4m)
  • 148 pts – Enzo Fernandez (£4.2m)
  • 144 pts – Morgan Rogers (£5.2m)
  • 143 pts – Anthony Gordon (£4.8m)
  • 142 pts – Rayan Cherki (£5.8m)
  • 141 pts – Jeremy Doku (£4.7m)

Guimaraes’s eye-catching form has boosted his ownership to 10.4% but he’s still less popular than Rice, Rogers and team-mate Gordon despite the widening gap between him and those competing for a place on the midfield podium.

Some Dream Team bosses will be hesitant to recruit him now as they may feel they are committing the cardinal sin of chasing lost points.

While it’s true the 31 points from his last two games are now in the past, it’s not unreasonable to expect more healthy returns from him in the coming weeks given Newcastle’s schedule.

Gameweek 18 is not done yet as Eddie Howe’s side will host Leeds on Wednesday night and the double headers just keep coming.

Due to their participation in the Carabao Cup semi-finals and the Champions League, Newcastle are one of just four teams set to fulfil eight fixtures across the next four Gameweeks.

UPCOMING NEWCASTLE DOUBLE HEADERS

  • GW19: Bournemouth (h) & Man City (h)
  • GW20: Wolves (a) & PSV (h)
  • GW21: Aston Villa (h) & PSG (a)
  • GW22: Liverpool (a) & Man City (a)

This set contains some tricky match-ups but Guimaraes is a strong option nonetheless — his play style makes him relatively fixture-proof.
