Bretman Rock slams Vanessa Hudgens, recalls ‘most disappointing celebrity interaction’ with her

Bretman also questioned Hudgens’ connection to their shared Filipino heritage in a new podcast interview
Bretman Rock has spoken publicly about a strained relationship with Vanessa Hudgens, revealing details of a past encounter that he says left a lasting impression and shaped his view of her authenticity.
Appearing on the Sweet or Savory Podcast on January 7, 2026, hosted by AJ Rafael and Alyssa Navarro, the social media personality was asked to name his most disappointing celebrity interaction. Bretman identified Hudgens without hesitation and traced the tension back to a Sugar Bear Hair event during the 2017 or 2018 Coachella Valley Music and Arts Festival.
According to the Filipino-American social media star, the incident occurred when he arrived at the brand’s rented house to collect festival passes and attempted to get the attention of Sugar Bear’s chief executive, whom he described as a friend. “I was trying to get his attention and waving, not at her, and she looks at me and tries to hide,” he said. He added, “First of all, I’m not saying ‘hi’ to you. I was always Team Sharpay. Let’s just get that out of the way. I’m not a fan.”
Bretman also alleged that Hudgens’ companion physically blocked his view, a move he interpreted as unnecessary given that both were invited guests.
The discussion later shifted to cultural identity, with Bretman questioning Hudgens’ connection to their shared Filipino heritage. “You’re not above me, I’m not under you. I’m Filipino, b**ch. Like, you can’t even like your own people?” he said.
Bretman has continued to criticise Hudgens in recent months, including mocking her mispronunciation of “Palawan” during her role as the Philippines’ tourism ambassador and publicly pretending not to recognise her at a film premiere.
Hudgens has previously stated that she is “proud of her Filipino roots,” though Bretman has expressed doubt about the sincerity of that claim. The remarks have prompted mixed reactions online, with some praising Bretman’s candour and others calling for the dispute to be left in the past.
