Wendy Marie Maile, 64, a lifelong resident of the Brainerd Lakes Area, passed away peacefully at her home in Baxter on Tuesday, January 6, 2026.
A gathering of family and friends will be held at 1-3 p.m., Saturday, January 24, 2026, at Nelson-Doran Funeral Home in Brainerd.
Wendy was born on September 22, 1961, in Minneapolis to Bernard “Bun” and Sylvia (Plante) Reichert. She graduated high school, took a few college classes, and then wisely decided that cooking was more fun. Wendy spent 26 years as a chef at Grand Casino Mille Lacs, where she fed countless people—and probably judged a few plates along the way.
She was a warm, easygoing mom who loved her kids fiercely and spoiled her grandchildren without apology. Wendy especially doted on her girls. She had a great sense of humor, loved a good joke or prank, and could happily spend hours watching reality TV drama unfold—preferably with snacks.
Wendy found peace in Duluth watching the ships come in, but her favorite place was anywhere her family gathered for a BBQ. That’s where she was happiest.
She will be deeply missed by her children, David Maile, Angie Maile, Ricky (Amy) Maile, and Michelle (Tony McDonald) Maile; her grandchildren, Alyssa, Trenton, Jazzy, and Caleb; her brother, Randy Reichert; and many extended family members and friends. She was preceded in death by her parents.
Wendy’s love, laughter, and cooking will never be forgotten.
