One of the biggest stars in the world looks to keep his team on an upward trajectory, as Connor McDavid and the Edmonton Oilers pay a visit to the Winnipeg Jets on Thursday night.

There is no question that McDavid is the best player in the world. His skills, speed and focus when playing the game set him far ahead of his peers. His play is what has helped drive the Oilers to back-to-back Western Conference championships, even though the team has lost to the Florida Panthers in the Stanley Cup Final each time.

McDavid’s efforts have also been a driving force in powering Edmonton through what was another sluggish start to the season, to where the team is back near the top of the standings, contending for first in the Pacific Division once again. Despite losing three of their past five games, the Oilers are tied for first in the division with the Vegas Golden Knights.

It is crazy to think that at this time last year, we were wondering if anyone was going to be able to beat the Jets. With Connor Hellebuyck in net, Winnipeg was the class of the NHL, en route to the franchise’s first Presidents’ Trophy. Now, the team is at the bottom of the league, with no upside to its game.

The Jets enter Thursday 11 points out of a Wild Card spot.
