College Football Playoff semifinals preview and predictions

Breaking down the College Football Playoff semifinals with expert analysis and predictions.

Chances are, if you’re reading this, Kewan Lacy just scored another touchdown.

The Ole Miss football sophomore running back has been on a tear during the 2025 college football season with 23 rushing touchdowns. He has been a perfect fit for the No. 6 seed Rebels (13-1) as they prepare to take on No. 10 Miami (12-2) in the College Football Playoff Fiesta Bowl semifinal.

Through two CFP games this year, Lacy has carried the ball 37 times for 185 yards and three touchdowns. He showed resilience in his matchup against Georgia, where he bounced back with two fourth-quarter rushing touchdowns following a first-half fumble recovered for a touchdown.

If Lacy can have another big game against the Hurricanes, Ole Miss will have a chance to compete for its first national championship since 1962.

Here’s what you need to know about Lacy, including his recruitment and stats with Ole Miss:

Who is Kewan Lacy?

Lacy has been the engine for the Ole Miss football this season. The team had been seeking a workhorse running back to carry the load following the departure of Quinshon Judkins to Ohio State following the 2023 season.

The Missouri transfer has 295 rushes for 1,464 yards and 23 touchdowns in 2025, adding 28 receptions for 173 yards in his first year as lead back. The sophomore’s 23 rushing touchdowns, which tie Florida quarterback Tim Tebow and Auburn running back Tre Mason, make Lacy just the fifth player in SEC history to reach that mark.

Only Alabama running backs Derrick Henry (28) and Najee Harris (26) have more rushing touchdowns in a single season.

Before his collegiate career, Lacy was a star running back for Lancaster High in Lancaster, Texas. He helped lead the program to a 27-11 record with three consecutive state playoff appearances. Lacy finished with 1,513 yards on 221 carries and 19 touchdowns during his senior year.

Is Kewan Lacy related to Eddie Lacy?

No, the Ole Miss running back shares no relation with former Alabama and Green Bay Packers running back Eddie Lacy. Lacy played for the Crimson Tide from 2009 to 2012, winning national championships in 2009, 2010 and 2012. He played for the Packers (2013-16) and the Seattle Seahawks (2017) in the NFL.
