A spokesperson for the council said: “When the pavements are icy it takes much longer for our crews to empty bins, and combined with the extra waste produced over the festive season, they are finding that they are taking longer to complete the round.
“If your bin hasn’t been emptied please just leave it out and our crews will try to catch up as soon as possible. If you have excess waste please place it in a tied bin bag next to your bin.”
In the Tong area of Bradford, Yorkshire Water said it was trying to fix a long-running water leak on Farringdon Drive.
On Facebook, local Green Party councillor Matt Edwards said the water had spilled onto surrounding streets and was “turning roads and pavements into ice rinks in freezing temperatures”.
A spokesperson for the company said it had tried to fix the leak on two occasions in December, but had been unable to do so because of difficulties trying to access the private property where the pipe was damaged.
Temperatures across West Yorkshire are forecast to dip below freezing later on Wednesday, while snow could fall in some places in the region on Thursday.
