Solo Leveling Goes on Hiatus for Shocking Reason

Solo Leveling spin-off and sequel series, Solo Leveling Ragnarok, is going on a hiatus as the artist behind the manhwa announced that he is stepping away and disclosed the surprising reason behind it. Jin, the artist in question, shared details about his departure in a letter via Solo Leveling: Ragnarok chapter #68 (the Season 2 Finale).

Jin revealed in his letter that he was stepping away from Solo Leveling Ragnarok for military service. This service has been mandatory for all South Korean male citizens since the mid-20th century.

Addressing the readers, Jin wrote, “Even before I was entrusted with Solo Leveling, I had been an avid fan of this work throughout my school years. I started drawing after seeing artist Jang Sung-rak’s artwork and direction, and that influence has remained the foundation of my work to this day.” (via ComicBook.com)

Jin shared details about his journey as an artist and noted that he got an “unexpected opportunity” to work on Solo Leveling side stories. He added, “I still remember very clearly how I felt when I first heard the news.”

The artist then proceeded to explain the circumstances in which he is exiting the project. He wrote, “As of today, I am wrapping up all work related to this title and will be stepping away from my position for a while. Due to personal circumstances – military service – I will be away temporarily, but I believe this is not an end; it is another period of preparation.”

Jin indicated that “another disciple of artist Jang Sung-rak” (the original artist of Solo Leveling manhwa) will replace him on the project and thanked readers and supporters. He concluded the letter with the following: “Going forward, I will keep this experience close to my heart and continue striving so that I can show you artwork I won’t be ashamed of. Thank you truly for everything.”

Notably, Jang Sung-rak, aka Dubu, died in 2022. Several artists subsequently took over the duties. As Jin mentions, he initially did the side stories before becoming the artist on Ragnarok.
