Derwin James & Del’Shawn Phillips Earn Second-Team All Pro Honors

A pair of Chargers have been recognized for their stellar play during the 2025 season.

Derwin James, Jr. and Del’Shawn Phillips both earned Second-Team All-Pro honors, The Associated Press announced Saturday morning.

James earned the accolade at slot cornerback while Phillips was a special teams selection.

For James, it his second consecutive season earning Second-Team All-Pro honors at the position. James also garnered his fifth overall All-Pro nod. He was a First and Second-Team selection in 2018 at two different positions before earning Second-Team nods in 2022, 2024 and 2025.

The 29-year-old has continued to thrive and wreck games in the slot since Jesse Minter’s arrival.

James finished the regular season second on the team with 94 total tackles to go along with seven passes defensed, 2.0 sacks and six tackles for loss.

He also tacked on three interceptions, which tied a career-high and were the most he’s had since his rookie season in 2018.

All this while continuing to be a team captain and one of the unquestioned leaders of the Chargers.

“When he breaks down the team, three words, ‘Be the best.’ That’s the standard,” Chargers Head Coach Jim Harbaugh said about James earlier in the season. “He is the one that is constantly holding himself and everybody to that standard.

“He’s pretty cool because I want to do it because that’s the standard he set,” Harbaugh added. “We’re all striving for that.”

When you look at how James stacked up against the rest of the league, he was once again an elite player.

James finished third among all safeties with 13 total pressures this year and also tallied 34 total stops, which are plays that constitute a failure for the offense, according to Pro Football Focus.

He also had one of his best seasons in coverage, allowing a career-best 68.4 passer rating when targeted this year.
