Jason Statham Fights for Survival in New Look at This Month’s Action Thriller “Classic”

The Beekeeper star Jason Statham is back in action and fighting to survive in a new look at this month’s action thriller, Shelter. The actor and martial artist continues to cement himself as one of cinema’s greatest action heroes, with Shelter seeing him join forces with Shot Caller, Greenland, and Angel Has Fallen director Ric Roman Waugh for what promises to be a modern action movie “classic.”

Possessing all the elements fans love to see, including a violent, dangerous past, Statham’s latest action hero is forced to put his particular set of skills to the test once again when a storm comes closing in. Taking to Instagram, The Stath himself has now shared a whole host of new images from Shelter, showing off his grizzled character (no doubt a former assassin of some kind) as he fights to keep both himself and the young girl now under his protection alive.

Written by Ward Parry, Shelter also boasts an all-star cast that includes Bodhi Rae Breathnach (Hamnet), Bill Nighy (Pirates of the Caribbean: Dead Man’s Chest), Naomi Ackie (Blink Twice), and Daniel Mays (Rogue One: A Star Wars Story) alongside Jason Statham, and is due to be released in theaters on January 30, 2026, courtesy of Black Bear Pictures. You can check out the new images and the official synopsis for Shelter below…

On a remote coastal island, a reclusive man rescues a young girl from a deadly storm, drawing them both into danger. Forced out of isolation, he must confront his turbulent past while protecting her, sending them on a tense journey of survival and redemption.

‘Shelter’ Finds Jason Statham “At His Best”

Not only does Shelter harbor everything you could possibly want in another unashamedly no-nonsense action flick led by The Stath, both director Ric Roman Waugh and co-star Naomi Ackie have hyped up the movie to a ludicrously exciting degree, with the former stating that it finds Statham “at his best” while the latter has declared it a “classic.”

“This is Jason Statham at his best. This is Jason Statham the action star, and this is the guy that will show you and prove again what an amazing actor he is,” Waugh said of Statham’s Shelter peformance. “He gives a performance that just will blow your mind and will win your heart over. It’s the full package. (He) knows the story inside out, (he’s) prepared and (is) both going to challenge the process in a way of being respectful and wanting to raise the bar. You couldn’t ask for a better dance partner.”

Meanwhile, Naomi Ackie called Shelter “so much fun,” before adding, “It’s a classic that I think the only way I can describe it is, it’s like, you know, Jason Statham is so good at making exciting action films that feel extremely watchable and so it’s actually so much fun being a part of that world… I had a ball.”

Shelter is just one of several action thrillers on the Statham horizon, with the beloved actor set to lead Mutiny from director Jean-François Richet, which is due for release on August 21, 2026, will reprise the role of assassin Adam Clay in director Timo Tjahjanto’s The Beekeeper 2, and reunite with Guy Ritchie and Vinnie Jones for the long-awaited Layer Cake sort-of-sequel, Viva La Madness.
