Kyle Jamieson led New Zealand’s bowling attack in the first ODI against India on Sunday (January 11) and picked up four wickets for 41 runs in 10 overs. The former RCB pacer opened his wicket account by dismissing world No. 1 ODI batter Rohit Sharma (26 runs from 29 balls) on the fourth ball of the ninth over of India’s innings and then picked up Virat Kohli (93 from 91), Ravindra Jadeja (4 from 5) and Shreyas Iyer (49 from 47) wickets as well.
While the likes of Rohit and Kohli were caught by New Zealand skipper Michael Bracewell, Kristian Clarke completed Jadeja’s catch on the last ball of the 40th over of the 301-run chase. On the first ball of his next over, Jamieson then clean bowled Iyer.
Jamieson’s figures of 4 for 41 didn’t help New Zealand secure a win in the first ODI against India, but it did help him become only the third New Zealand bowler to take a four-wicket haul in an ODI match played against India in India.
Left-arm pacer Andy McKay was the first Kiwi bowler to dismiss four Indian batters in an ODI match played in India. He achieved the feat on November 28, 2010, in Guwahati. Trent Boult joined him in the elite list on October 22, 2017, during the India-New Zealand ODI match played at Wankhede Stadium in Mumbai. In that match, Boult finished with figures of 4/35 in 10 overs, which is still a record of the best bowling figures by a Kiwi bowler against India in an ODI match played in India.

So far, no Black Caps bowler has managed to take a five-wicket haul against India in an ODI match played in India.
For New Zealand, apart from Jamieson, who will play for Delhi Capitals in IPL 2026, Adithya Ashok and Kristian Clarke also picked up one wicket each. While Ashok dismissed Indian skipper Shubman Gill (56 from 71 balls), Clarke removed Harshit Rana, who made 29 runs from 23 balls as a No. 7 batter.
