KEEPING UP THE PACE: Another weekend, another win. Vancouver Whitecaps FC extended their historic MLS era club-record start to 8W-1L-0D thanks to a thrilling 3-1 victory over Colorado Rapids in front of a sold-out crowd of 27,589 at BC Place last Saturday. Cheikh Sabaly tallied his second goal for the club, while Brian White earned his fourth selection to the MLS Team of the Matchday for scoring his third brace of the season. With the win, the ‘Caps became only the second MLS team in the post-shootout era (since 2000) to win eight of thier first nine games to begin a season and equalled their longest MLS regular season win streak with their fourth consecutive victory. It’s only the fifth time the club has tallied four straight wins in regular season play, with two of those occasions coming this season and another in 2025.
CREME DE LA ‘CAPS: Dating back to the start of 2025, no other MLS team has posted a better regular season record than the ‘Caps – 26W-8L-9D. In that span, Vancouver has the best goal difference (+48), fewest goals against (43), and second most goals scored (91) in the league. This season, the ‘Caps also lead the league in several categories, including expected goals (25.9), big chances created (47), set piece goals (9), goal differential (+20), goals per match (2.80), shots on target per match (7.10), and touches in the opposition’s box (325). On the defensive end of the pitch, Vancouver has the least expected goals conceded (6.20) in the league, the least shots conceded (75), sit second in tackles per match (19.9), and are tied for second in clean sheets (5).
THE ROAD AHEAD: Saturday’s win over Colorado marked the final home match for the ‘Caps before this summer’s FIFA World Cup 2026™ touches down in Vancouver. The Blue and White will now embark on a stretch of five consecutive road matches against Western Conference opponents leading directly into the league’s World Cup break on May 24. First up is a visit to LA Galaxy this Saturday, May 2, followed by a clash with San Jose Earthquakes on May 9. They’ll then head to Texas for a road trip with visits to FC Dallas on May 13 and Houston Dynamo FC on May 16. The road stretch wraps up with a visit to San Diego FC on May 23 in the final match for Vancouver ahead of the break.
