NYC weather alert: Snow to impact Sunday commute, more possible Thursday

UPDATE: Notify NYC posted this statement to X: “A band of rain and snow showers accompanied by winds of up to 40 MPH are possible. Be prepared for rapidly changing visibilities in the heavier of the snow showers.”
STATEN ISLAND, N.Y. — Don’t be fooled by the early morning sun: Snow could be in the future of New Yorkers Sunday evening as a storm moves into the area.
Despite kicking off the day around 44 degrees, temperatures are expected to plummet down to 33 degrees come nightfall — though it will feel more like 18 degrees.
In between that timeframe, the possibility for a slushy mix of rain and snow could come pouring down on the evening commute.
Roads will be slick as New Yorkers traverse home in the dark evening hours, with a chance of heavier snow impacting travel even more.
According to AccuWeather, “any heavier snow shower could reduce visibility.”
Factor in wind gusts reaching 31 miles-per-hour, and tonight’s ride home just got a whole lot messier.
New Jersey is expecting snow squalls reaching 45 miles-per-hour in certain parts of the state, “particularly for counties along and north of the I-95 corridor,” according to Advance/SILive.com sister site, NJ.com.
Don’t fret, though: The accumulation predicted for Sunday evening is negligible, according to AccuWeather’s forecast.
The good news is that once the storm clears the area, the rest of the night will be quiet.
The next chance for a snow that will stick is Thursday.
Whether that comes to fruition is reliant “on the track of a coastal storm,” according to AccuWeather.
Possibility of a mix of snow and rain is predicted presently for the day Thursday, with the night’s chilly 24-degree weather sparking the transition to a possibility of just snow.
Again, everything depends on that coastal storm movement.
