After Giants firing, here’s where Brian Daboll could land immediately as a head coach

The Titans are conducting a wide-ranging head coaching search after the midseason firing of Brian Callahan.

Could it result in the hiring of Brian Daboll, who was fired midseason by the Giants?

Probably not. But Daboll is at least getting an interview Friday with the Titans, according to NFL Network.

It is his first known interview — for either a head coaching or offensive coordinator job — of this hiring cycle.

Ultimately, it seems likelier that Daboll will land somewhere as an offensive coordinator in 2026 — either in the NFL or in college football, where he won a national title as Alabama’s coordinator in 2017.

One NFL offensive coordinator spot to watch, of course, is the Eagles. They very well could fire Kevin Patullo after an underwhelming season.

Daboll remaining in the NFC East to reunite with Saquon Barkley in Philadelphia would be a fascinating storyline, especially if the Giants land a high-profile head coach replacement, like John Harbaugh.

The Giants canned Daboll after a 2-8 start in 2025. He went 3-14 and 6-11 the previous two seasons, after finishing 9-7-1 and winning a wild-card playoff game as a rookie head coach in 2022.

Daboll was the NFL’s Coach of the Year that season. Little went right for him in East Rutherford after that.

Maybe Daboll, 50, will eventually get another head coaching job. He isn’t that old. But he probably first needs to polish his reputation a bit by succeeding as an offensive coordinator again.

Still, because of his work with Josh Allen in Buffalo from 2018-21, Daboll remains at least somewhat intriguing for coach-needy teams like the Titans — who are trying to mold Cam Ward, last year’s top pick.

The Giants badly wanted to trade up for Ward, but the Titans stayed at No. 1 and took him. The Giants wound up with Jaxson Dart at No. 25, after trading up into the bottom of Round 1 to get him.

Ultimately, both Dart and Ward flashed potential as rookies. It remains unclear who will develop into the superior quarterback.

Daboll’s issues as a head coach from 2023-25 stemmed more from his temperament/leadership and staff/game management issues than his ability to design plays for a promising quarterback like Dart or Ward.

So the Titans will have to consider those shortcomings.

By the way, the Giants host the Titans in 2026.
