Kym Marsh has shared a tribute to her late dad two years after his death. The 49-year-old, who was born in Whiston, previously described her dad as a “legend” and revealed that a “huge hole” in her life will never be replaced.

The former Coronation Street star shared a selfie alongside her dad, David Marsh, to Instagram yesterday and captioned it: “2 years since you left us dad. We miss you every day. Life will never be the same without you.

“What I would give for one more cuddle, one of your silly jokes or to hear your voice. I love you so very much poppa bear. I hope I’m making you proud. Always your shadow dad.”

Kym spoke to the ECHO last year in an exclusive interview as she reflected on the loss of her dad, who died aged 78 after a battle with prostate cancer.

After his diagnosis, David was treated at Clatterbridge Cancer Centre and one of his final wishes was for the family to reciprocate the support he had received from the vital facility throughout a difficult time.

Since then, Kym has taken part in the fundraising Glow Green Night Walk around Liverpool. The night-time walk involves people following an 8km route around the city’s landmarks, which are lit up green to mark World Cancer Day.

Kym explained everyone found extra motivation because they knew the cause was so important to her dad. On the walk, Kym said: “I didn’t know what to expect for the first year and when we got there, we were so overwhelmed with what we saw and what we experienced.

“It was important for us to be there because we had our story and our reason to be involved. Every single person is there for a reason, whether it’s because they’ve had cancer or because someone they know has had cancer.”

After the latest tribute to her dad, Kym received supportive messages. Coronation Street’s Sally Carman posted three yellow heart emojis and Lisa Faulkner said “He will be so very proud of you. All of my love to you. A big cuddle incoming.”

Other comments said: “Your dad was such an amazing man. Have some lovely memories of him when we lived next door to you” and “A wonderful human being. Never forgotten.”

Kym is set to take the stage in the production of Single White Female this month, premiering at Brighton’s Theatre Royal before embarking on a UK and Ireland tour until June 13.

Written by author, journalist and broadcaster Rebecca Reid, the play is a fresh take on the 1992 psychological thriller of the same name, which was originally based on the novel SWF Seeks Same by John Lutz.

The Waterloo Road star told Prima Magazine: “I’m so excited for Single White Female. It’s the world premiere of the show, so it’s a massive deal because it’s brand new and hasn’t been done on stage before, so there aren’t any expectations about what it will be.

“Sometimes when you go into theatre jobs, someone’s done that role before you and people have an idea of what they are going to see.

“With Single White Female, no one’s bringing expectations for what they’ll see on stage. Some elements of the story are very different, but the heart of it remains the same. It is going to be ‘on the edge of your seat stuff.”
