Police officer injured while making rescue during residential high-rise building fire in Atlantic City, New Jersey

ATLANTIC CITY, N.J. (WPVI) — Firefighters at the Jersey shore battled a multi-alarm blaze at a residential high-rise in Atlantic City.
The fire broke out around 5 a.m. on Wednesday at the Brighton Towers on the 2800 block of Atlantic Avenue.
Heavy flames and smoke could be seen coming from the eighth floor, spreading up to the tenth floor.

The building was evacuated. Some residents had to be rescued from their balconies.
Officials say an Atlantic City police officer was injured while making a rescue and taken to the hospital with smoke inhalation.
Crews from nearby Margate and Northfield also responded.
Firefighters remain on the scene.
The cause of the fire is unknown.
