Wednesday Snowstorm Will Pass Quickly — But Could Pose Danger

CHICAGO — A snowstorm that hit Chicago on Wednesday morning should move through the area quickly.

The storm is caused by “an Arctic cold front racing through the Great Lakes,” said Brett Borchardt, senior meteorologist at the National Weather Service. It’s expected to pass quickly, “only lasting an hour or two at any given location” as it moves south across northern Illinois and northwest Indiana, he said.

Though the storm will only bring 1-2 inches of snow, Borchardt said there could be “wind gusts as high as 50 mph and visibility down to near zero in spots,” making for dangerous conditions.

The city will still have scattered flurries in the afternoon, with snow expected to stop in the evening, according to a report from the National Weather Service.

The day is only expected to get as warm as 32 degrees on Wednesday, and that will fall to about 22 degrees by noon, according to the National Weather Service.

More snow is possible Thursday through Sunday, as temperatures are expected to drop over the weekend.
