Baseball card maker creates one-of-a-kind card of NFL Hall of Famer drafted by the Royals

KANSAS CITY, Mo. (KCTV) – A one-of-a-kind baseball card now ties a Hall of Fame quarterback to the Kansas City Royals.

On Wednesday, sports card maker Topps announced that a 1-of-1 Superfractor autograph card of Hall of Fame Miami Dolphins quarterback Dan Marino will be made to commemorate his time as a Kansas City Royals draft pick.

Marino was drafted by the Royals in the fourth round of the 1979 MLB Draft out of Central Catholic High School in Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania.

Rather than head toward a career in the MLB, Marino enrolled at the University of Pittsburgh and four years later became the 27th overall pick in the first round of the 1983 NFL Draft.

Marino is one of several Hall of Fame — or near Hall of Fame — quarterbacks with a tie to baseball. Tom Brady, John Elway and Russell Wilson all were drafted in an MLB Draft.

It’s unclear how collectors can get their hands on the unique Marino card.
