‘Heated Rivalry’ author burns up bestseller lists — again

I told myself I wasn’t going to write about “Heated Rivalry” again this week, but it’s hard not to do when the book and its mates in Rachel Reid’s “Game Changers” series are burning up the bestseller lists again as readers snap up her tales of hunky hockey players in love.

I thought we’d perhaps hit peak “Heated Rivalry” last week — that’s the name of the ridiculously popular Crave TV series as well as the book — when five of Reid’s novels made the Canadian fiction list and two topped the original fiction list. But this week, Reid has snagged the top six spots in Canadian fiction and has five books on the original fiction list.

She was knocked out of top spot in original fiction by Taylor Jenkins Reid‘s astronaut romance “Atmosphere,” but still! Plus, we now know that Reid will continue the story of lovers Shane and Ilya — the focus of “Heated Rivalry” and sequel “The Long Game” — with a new book in September, “Unrivaled.”

In non-“Heated Rivalry” news, a couple of Canadian authors made a mark on the original non-fiction list.

Trina Moyles is at No. 6 with “Black Bear: A Story of Siblinghood and Survival,” her memoir about her encounters with bears when she worked as a fire lookout in northern Alberta, as well as how she processed her grief over her brother’s suicide. It’s also at No. 4 on the Canadian non-fiction list.

Another personal story, “Life After Ambition: A ‘Good Enough’ Memoir,” made No. 8 in original non-fiction.

It’s an account by Toronto journalist Amil Niazi, a columnist for New York Magazine’s “The Cut,” of jumping off the professional hamster wheel to see what else is out there.
