Mumbai BMC Election Results 2026 Live Updates: BJP closes in on Thackeray bastion; Mahayuti heads for major victory

Mumbai BMC Election Results 2026 Live Updates: Trends from across Maharashtra

Trends from the Brihanmumbai Municipal Corporation (BMC) vote counting on Friday show the BJP-Shiv Sena Mahayuti alliance leading in over 115 wards, while the Shiv Sena (UBT)-MNS combine trails with 70 leads. The Congress is ahead in 13 wards.

Beyond Mumbai, early trends from civic elections across Maharashtra indicate strong performances for the BJP. In Nagpur, the Chief Minister’s home city, the BJP leads in 78 of 151 seats, with Congress at 22.

In the Pune Municipal Corporation (PMC), the BJP has displaced the Pawars, leading in 50 of 165 wards, while the two NCP factions lead in five wards, and the Congress-UBT alliance in seven. In the first PMC results, Ward 20 in the Shankar Maharaj Math-Bibewadi area saw three BJP candidates—Rajendra Shilimkar, Tanvi Divekar, and Mansi Deshpande—elected, alongside an NCP win by Gaurav Ghule, who defeated BJP’s Mahendra Sundecha.

In the Thane Municipal Corporation, the Deputy CM Eknath Shinde’s home turf, the BJP leads in 21 of 131 wards, while the NCP and the UBT-MNS-NCP(SP) alliance each lead in six. Nashik trends show the BJP leading in 12 of 122 seats, MVA-MNS in nine, and the SS-NCP combine in 11. In Shambhinagar, BJP leads in 18 of 115 wards, Shiv Sena in 11, UBT Sena in 7, Vanchit Bahujan Aghadi in 1, Congress-NCP(SP) in 5, and NCP in 2.

The recently concluded BMC elections recorded a voter turnout of 52.94 per cent, according to the State Election Commission. These elections, held after an eight-year gap, were a major civic exercise for Mumbai, with the previous polls conducted in 2017 and the last mayor, Kishori Pednekar, leaving office in March 2022. Out of 1.03 crore eligible voters, 54.76 lakh cast their votes, including 29.23 lakh men, 25.52 lakh women, and 251 transgender voters.

The elections were marred by allegations from the Shiv Sena (UBT)-MNS alliance, which were subsequently refuted by the SEC. Exit polls have predicted a victory for the BJP-Shiv Sena alliance, with the Thackeray brothers finishing second and Congress failing to make a significant impact.

For context, in the 2017 BMC elections, the undivided Shiv Sena had won 84 of 227 seats. At the time, in alliance with the BJP, the coalition had crossed the halfway mark of 114 seats, with the BJP securing 82 seats.
