Australian Open Day 2 Women’s Predictions Including Amanda Anisimova vs Simona Waltert

Expect plenty of entertaining tennis on day two at the Australian Open. There are 28 matches on the slate in Melbourne and, as always, we here at LWOT will be offering our predictions for every match, including Iga Swiatek vs Yuan Yue, Coco Gauff vs Kamilla Rakhimova, Mirra Andreeva vs Donna Vekic, Jessica Pegula vs Anastasia Zakharova, Barbora Krejcikova vs Diana Shnaider, and Victoria Mboko vs Emerson Jones. But who will reach the second round?
Australian Open Day 2 Predictions
Amanda Anisimova vs Simona Waltert
Zain: Amanda Anisimova enters the match as one of the few true contenders to win the tournament. While Simona Waltert might be a crafty player, Anisimova’s power might be too much for her.
Prediction: Anisimova in 2
Jordan: It will be interesting to observe how Anisimova handles the increased pressure on her after an outstanding 2025. This should be a decent draw to start her campaign. There is nothing in Waltert’s game that the American needs to worry much about.
Prediction: Anisimova in 2
Nurein: Waltert has limited Grand Slam success and this is a tall order for the Swiss. Anisimova has been to two Slam finals in the past year and the American will be one of the contenders for the title in the next two weeks. I struggle to see how Waltert can handle all that power from Anisimova’s racket.
Prediction: Anisimova in 2
Paula Badosa vs Zarina Diyas
Zain: Still working her way back from injury, Paula Badosa should have more than enough baseline stability to overcome Zarina Diyas, a player who is ranked around the top 300.
Prediction: Badosa in 2
Jordan: Physical issues are more likely to stop Badosa than Diyas. The Spaniard is capable of a deep run if she stays fit, as she showed last year. Badosa will almost certainly win this if feeling well on the court on the court.
Prediction: Badosa in 2
Nurein: Diyas is an experienced name in the draw, but the Kazakh has not featured in Grand Slams for some time. Badosa has the bigger weapons to punch her ticket into the second round.
Prediction: Badosa in 2
McCartney Kessler vs Emiliana Arango
Zain: Emiliana Arango enters this match on a three-match losing streak, and against an aggressive opponent like McCartney Kessler, confidence might be enough to determine the outcome.
Prediction: Kessler in 3
Jordan: Kessler will need to work hard against Arango, who bases her game on grit and extending the rallies, regardless of the final score. Nonetheless, I do not see an upset on the cards here. Kessler is a pretty cool character, and not prone to panicking against opponents who fight.
Prediction: Kessler in 2
Nurein: Kessler is usually very consistent on hard courts and I expect her to encounter little resistance against Arango. The Colombian has improved in the last 12 months, but Kessler’s best tennis should win the day.
Prediction: Kessler in 2
Fran Jones vs Linda Klimovicova
Zain: Linda Klimovicova looked exceptional in the qualifiers, while Francesca Jones recently had an injury setback. Technically speaking, Jones should be favoured here, but I think against a less-than-100% opponent, Klimovicova should be able to find a way.
Prediction: Klimovicova in 3
Jordan: I think Klimovicova can shock her more experienced opponent. She played terrifically in qualifying, and her style is suited to facing opponents like Jones who do not hit with much pace. The Briton does not usually have a plan B if her gritty style is not working.
Prediction: Klimovicova in 2
Nurein: Jones is still chasing for that elusive Grand Slam main draw match win. She’s come close a few times, but this must feel like a very good chance against Polish qualifier Klimovicova. That said, Klimovicova can hit through the court if she brings that qualifying form in this match.
Prediction: Klimovicova in 3
