Body found on school grounds as pupils sent home

A school in Wolverhampton has closed following the discovery of a man’s dead body within its grounds this morning – with police now investigating the circumstances around his death

A school has closed to pupils after a man’s body was discovered within its grounds.
Smestow Academy in Wolverhampton said it was closing due to the police incident this morning. Emergency services, including two ambulances and a paramedic officer, were called to Windmill Crescent at around 10.40am, and the man was sadly pronounced dead at the scene.
Police are now investigating the circumstances surrounding his death and carrying out work to confirm the man’s identity, Birmingham Live reports. A notice on the school’s website reads: “School is closing due to an unconnected police incident from 1pm today.”

A West Midlands Police spokesperson said: “We’re currently at Smestow Academy after a discovery of the body in the grounds. Emergency services were called at around 10.40am today, and the man was sadly pronounced dead at the scene.
“Enquiries are now under way to confirm the man’s identity and the circumstances around his death. The school is closing to pupils as enquiries get under way.”

A West Midlands Ambulance Service spokesperson said: “We were called to a medical emergency in a field on Windmill Crescent, Castlecroft, Wolverhampton at 10.41am today. Two ambulances and a paramedic officer responded to the scene where, sadly, one man was confirmed deceased.”
