Winter storm update: Tug Hill region braces for 4 inches of snow per hour starting on Monday

A winter storm warning remains in effect until 4 p.m. Wednesday for Oswego, Jefferson and Lewis counties, with forecasters predicting 2 to 4 feet of snow and dangerous travel conditions across the region.
The heaviest snowfall is expected across the Tug Hill region, where snowfall rates could reach up to 4 inches per hour at times from Monday night through Tuesday night. Wind gusts as high as 45 mph will create blowing and drifting snow with whiteout conditions at times.
An arctic front crossing the region Monday afternoon and evening will bring frigid temperatures to the area. Wind chill values are expected to range from zero to 10 below zero from Monday night through Tuesday night.

The lake effect snow band off Lake Ontario began developing northeast of the lake Monday morning and will shift throughout the coming days. The band will focus on areas east of Lake Ontario through Tuesday, remaining concentrated over or just north of the Tug Hill region and across southern Jefferson County, western Lewis County and northern Oswego County.
The lake band is forecast to slowly shift back north Tuesday night and dissipate Wednesday morning as drier air moves into the region.
Forecasters warn that another round of lake snow is expected Thursday as temperatures turn colder again.
