Threads is reportedly getting more visitors on Android than Twitter/X is

A new report has been published, indicating that X users are dwindling while the number of Android and iOS visits to Threads has steadily increased and surpassed the Twitter it once was.
Since Twitter has been replaced by X, a number of social media replicas have popped up trying to corner the market that saw the traditional loudspeaker format morphing into something… different. That includes outwardly nostalgic options like Bluesky and Meta’s rushed Threads.
Of the few, Threads seems to have picked up the most speed on Android. According to a report from Similarweb, Threads has amassed a steady 141.5 million daily active users on mobile, while X/Twitter has steadily decreased to an average of 125 million daily visits (via TechCrunch and Similarweb). These numbers refer to active visits on Android and iOS, mainly.
The number of web visits doesn’t seem to sit in Meta’s favor. The disparity is massive, with Similarweb’s reports indicating that X sees 150 million daily web visits while Threads sees a measly 8.5 million visits.
Silimarweb’s report paints a picture where the number of Threads users is rising at a faster rate than users resceeding from X. That would indicate that these are not one-for-one trades, where users leaving X are switching to Threads.
Rather, it appears the rise comes from instances of new discovery, or being led from Instagram to Threads. Meta’s apps are designed to work interoperably, and users are seemingly bounced between the two for engagement. On top of that, Threads continues to add new features on Android and iOS to round out its identity.
The data is backdated to January 7, which would outrule any user loss due to the recent controversy with X’s Grok AI model. The image generation model has garnered attention from government officials seeking to ban Grok AI for generating inappropriate content without user consent.
