Lee Corso at Indiana vs. Miami national championship game? Not so fast

Indiana’s incredible turnaround under Curt Cignetti
Curt Cignetti has turned Indiana into an undefeated powerhouse chasing history.
As Indiana plays for its first national championship in program history, one of its most prominent coaches won’t be in the stadium to witness it.
College football icon Lee Corso will not be at Hard Rock Stadium to watch the Hoosiers take on Miami in the College football Playoff national championship game on Monday, Jan. 19.
Before he became the face of ESPN’s “College GameDay,” Corso was in charge of Indiana from 1973-82, becoming one of the most successful coaches in the team’s history. He won 41 games in 10 seasons, with his biggest achievement coming in 1979, when he led Indiana to the Holiday Bowl and beat undefeated Brigham Young for its first-ever bowl victory.
The 90-year-old Corso retired from broadcasting at the beginning of the season, and while he hasn’t been traveling since then, there was a chance he could see the Hoosiers play for the championship since Corso lives in Florida. However, his family revealed there are no plans to be at the stadium.
“My dad’s going to be at home, watching the game, with my mom,” his son Steve told ESPN radio on Jan. 17. “All these years, they haven’t had a chance to watch football together, and much less the Hoosiers, right? So it’s my mom’s time now, so they’re together, watching at home.”
It confirms what ESPN reporter Jen Lada said on social media not long after Indiana beat Oregon to punch their ticket to the national championship game. She said on Jan. 10 that she spoke with Corso and he said he planned to watch from home.
However, if you think Corso won’t have a presence in the stadium, not so fast, my friend. Steve Corso did say he will be at the game, and he added he “might FaceTime him at halftime.” And if the Hoosiers win, will there be another video call?
“You bet,” Steve Corso said.
Corso’s former colleagues will be on hand to watch Indiana take on Miami, which kicks off at 7:30 p.m. ET on Monday, Jan. 19 from Hard Rock Stadium in Miami Gardens, Florida.
