Magnitude 4.7 Earthquake Strikes Papua New Guinea
Port Moresby, January 14 (QNA) – An earthquake measuring 4.7 on the Richter scale struck on Wednesday Papua New Guinea.
The US Geological Survey (USGS) reported that the epicenter of the quake was located 193 kilometers southeast of Kokopo, at a depth of 10 kilometers.
Papua New Guinea is located in an area called the Ring of Fire, a region that stretches along the Pacific coast and is characterized by high seismic and volcanic activity. This region contains 90 percent of the world’s active volcanoes. (QAN)
