Report: Mets in agreement to acquire Luis Robert Jr. from White Sox

The Mets will send infielder Luisangel Acuña and pitching prospect Truman Pauley to the White Sox to complete the deal.

Chicago exercised its $20-million club option on Robert for 2026 earlier this off-season. He has a matching team option for 2027, which will now belong to New York.

The New York Post‘s Joel Sherman reported that the Mets will take on the entirety of the money owed to Robert in both 2026 and 2026.

Robert, 28, hasn’t quite lived up to the lofty potential he showed early in his career. In 2025, the Cuban outfielder slashed just .223/.297/.364 with 14 home runs in 110 games.

He did, however, swipe a career-high 33 bases on the season.

In 2023, Robert authored the best season of his career, winning the Silver Slugger and being named to his lone all-star team after slashing .264/.315/.542 with 38 home runs, 80 RBIs and 20 steals en route to compiling 4.9 fWAR.

Robert Jr., who also won a Gold Glove in his rookie 2020 season, has seven games of playoff experience, when he combined to hit .393 with a .952 OPS.

Acuña, meanwhile, struggled to find his footing at the major-league level in 2025. He played in 95 games with the Mets, carrying a .567 OPS while stealing 16 bases. The younger brother of former NL MVP Ronald, Luisangel, will look to earn a full-time role in the White Sox infield as they continue their rebuild.

Pauley was selected in the 12th round of last summer’s draft out of Harvard. The 22-year-old right-hander made a brief professional debut after the draft, throwing 4.1 innings for New York’s low-A affiliate.

The move comes after a busy day in Queens. Earlier Tuesday, the Mets officially announced the signing of Bo Bichette and saw longtime centre-fielder Carlos Beltrán inducted into the Hall of Fame.
