100,000 vehicles recalled due to risk of catching fire

Over 100,000 vehicles have been recalled by Ford due to a mechanical error that can cause a fire.
According to recall report from the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration, the engine block heaters for several different Ford models could overheat then lead to short circuiting.
“A short circuit in the engine block heater increases the risk of an underhood fire,” the report stated.
In total, 116,672 vehicles were recalled with models ranging from 2013 to 2019.
The affected models include the 2013-2019 Ford Escape, 2013-2018 Ford Focus and the 2015-2016 Lincoln MKC.
The recall report said consumers can identify defective block heaters by looking for coolant spots on the driveway or garage floor, a loss of cabin heat, powertrain unit overheating, or a warning indicator for a low coolant level.
Ford also recalled 2,633 engine block heaters manufactured between Oct. 7, 2011 and Jan. 8, 2026. The heaters can be identified with the part numbers CV6Z-6A051-CA and CV6Z-6A051-AA.
As a remedy, owners of the affected vehicles will be notified by mail to take their vehicle to a Ford or Lincoln dealer to have the engine block heater replaced when a new heater becomes available.
The service will be free of charge.
Letters will be sent to affected consumers beginning February 9 and then later in April.
