Dante Torres Has a New Look on Chicago P.D. — Is He Finally OK? (RECAP)

After a recent mood shift had Chihards seriously worried for Intelligence Unit icon Dante Torres (Benjamin Levy Aguilar) on Chicago P.D., it appears that Torres finally has his groove back after he set out to clear an innocent man’s name and solve a mystifying cold case on Season 11 of the NBC nail-biter.
How to Watch
Watch Chicago P.D. Wednesdays at 10/9c on NBC and next day on Peacock.
Chicago P.D.‘s January 21 episode “Faith” picked up on the action-packed events of Season 11’s “Send Me” after Torres got into a fateful car accident with a prisoner transport van that led him to cross paths with the wrongfully convicted Odell Morgan (played by The Wire star Chad L. Coleman). After hearing a critically injured Morgan out during his final hours, Torres learned Morgan had been set up for the murder of his wife Simone, so he committed himself to relaunching the previously hurried homicide investigation.
Torres had been battling with a crisis of faith after the traumatic events of Chicago P.D. Season 12, letting himself go with a scruffy new look. However, Morgan’s final hours snapped Torres back to reality as he marveled at the outlandish odds of a detective getting into an accident with Morgan’s van.

After Morgan eventually passed away from injuries sustained in the crash, Torres visited the Morgan household to clear his name and reveal the truth of Odell’s unsettling setup, which meant his wife’s actual killer was still out there.
Torres and the Intelligence Unit solved the cold case of Simone Morgan
Still set on solving the cold case, Torres found himself grappling with no leads in sight, connecting with Intelligence Unit newbie Eva Imani (Arienne Mandi) over the mind-boggling murder of Odell’s wife, Simone Morgan, played by Dandria Dani Jo Williams (Dark Matter, The Bear, Chicago Med). Viewers first learned about Simone’s mystifying death in Season 13’s “Send Me,” when Odell revealed he had no clue who murdered his wife. But after Odell’s brother-in-law was killed after agreeing to open up about the conspiracy, Torres gained renewed purpose to clear Odell’s name and find the person responsible for the cover-up.
After retracing Simone’s final steps, Torres deduced that Simone was likely killed after she witnessed the murder of a young truck driver named Noah, who had been killed in a dope rip gone wrong the night before. With this working theory in mind, the Intelligence Unit relaunched the homicide investigation with this possible lead. The pivot eventually led Torres to learn that the drug rip had been orchestrated by Brian Foster, a well-known detective in the CPD who was running illegal drug rips during the time of Simone’s death.
Witnessing a murder at the hand of a corrupt cop murder would have given Simone plenty of reason to be skittish in her final hours, so Torres got to work in collecting more concrete evidence.

Does Torres’ new look mean he’ll be OK on Chicago P.D.?
It was a cold case without a lead in sight, but a renewed Torres refused to give up. In the final moments of the episode, Torres returned to church for the first time in a while to attend the memorial service of Odell and Simone Morgan, showing respect to the family who turned everything around for him. He was also noticeably freshly clean-shaven with a new tapered look, more closely resembling his old self from when he first joined the Intelligence Unit.
Torres connected with Simone and Odell’s daughter, Dominique, during the case, opening up about her father’s role in his new lease on life. Dominique was in an active crisis over losing her father and feeling like he was a stranger to her in his final years. Torres explained that he knew what it was like to feel emotionally lost, revealing that meeting Odell had given him a new direction in life.
Dominique confirmed that Detective Brian Foster had connected with Simone the night of her death, leading to the break in the case Torres needed. After going back and connecting Foster to the vehicles he used to dispose of the bodies in Lake Michigan, the Intelligence Unit had what they needed to locate the remains. Torres found himself thinking of Odell as they located Simone Morgan’s body and found what they needed to deliver justice to Brian Foster once and for all.
Fans can stay caught up with Torres and the rest of the Intelligence Unit by watching Chicago P.D. on Wednesdays at 10/9c on NBC and the next day on Peacock.
