Penguins’ Stuart Skinner not expected to start vs. Oilers

Pittsburgh Penguins goaltender Stuart Skinner is making his return to Edmonton on Thursday, but instead of taking to the crease at Rogers Place, he’ll likely be watching from the bench.
The former Oiler is starting Wednesday against the Calgary Flames, per head coach Dan Muse, making an appearance in the second half of the Penguins’ back-to-back Thursday against his former team unlikely.
Skinner, an Edmonton native, was traded to the Penguins on Dec. 12, alongside Brett Kulak, in exchange for Tristan Jarry.
He spent parts of six seasons with the Oilers, with varied success, all of which culminated in back-to-back trips to the Stanley Cup Final in 2024 and 2025.
He had a career-high .914 save percentage in 2022-23, but is below .900 in both this season and last. He owns a career .904 save percentage and 2.73 goals-against average.
In nine games for the Penguins this season, Skinner has a 5-4 record with a .898 save percentage and 2.49 goals-against average.
