Virginia Lottery ticket worth $1 million sold in Marion

MARION, Va. (WCYB) — A Virginia Lottery ticket sold in Marion worth a cool $1 million is waiting to be claimed.
The winning ticket matched all six numbers in the Virginia Lottery’s Bank a Million drawing held Saturday, January 17. The numbers were 8, 15, 20, 23, 27 and 37. Because all six main numbers matched, the Bonus Ball number of 19 was not needed to win.
The ticket was purchased at Cargo Oil, located at 758 North Main Street in Marion. As a result of selling the winning ticket, the store will receive a $10,000 bonus from the Virginia Lottery.
The winner has 180 days from the drawing date to claim the prize. Lottery officials advise the ticket holder to sign the back of the ticket immediately to establish ownership, then contact the Virginia Lottery when ready to claim the prize.
Bank a Million is played exclusively in Virginia, with drawings held Wednesdays and Saturdays at 11 p.m. The game’s top prizes are calculated so winners receive the advertised amount after federal and state tax withholdings. The odds of winning the top prize are 1 in 3.8 million.
All Virginia Lottery profits support K-12 education. Smyth County received more than $5.6 million in Lottery funds for K-12 education last fiscal year, while the Lottery raised more than $901 million statewide for schools in Fiscal Year 2025.
