Wolves make offer for Mexican – Messi presents a block for transfer

Earlier this month, Soccer News explained Feyenoord have identified Wolves’ Hwang Hee-chan as a target. The Dutch club are looking for a new attacker in the winter market due to injuries to multiple players.

Hwang’s ability to operate up front and on the wings has attracted Feyenoord. There haven’t been any movements so far from the Eredivisie side to take him away from Molineux.

That hasn’t stopped Wolves from making efforts to try and bring in a new attacker to the club in January.

Rob Edwards’ side have identified a target in Mexico.

That’s according to Plano Deportivo in Mexico, who state Wolves have concrete interest in CF Monterrey’s Germán Berterame.

The Premier League side have converted their interest into a formal offer. It isn’t specified whether they submitted this to the player, the Mexican club or both. The report also makes no mention of the nature of their proposal.

That may not matter because the 27-year-old has rejected Edwards’ side at this point. He has snubbed Wolves in favour of joining Inter Miami CF.

Messi a bigger attraction than Wolves for player

Inter Miami star Lionel Messi is the key reason for the Mexico international turning down Wolves’ formal offer.

According to the report, the World Cup winner with Argentina made a direct call to the striker. This was ‘decisive’ for him to be convinced to pick MLS side over the English club.

Plano Deportivo add Messi’s intervention also helped the American club to unblock the negotiation.

Inter Miami have finalised a deal with Monterrey for a fee of around $15m [€12.8m]. The latter will receive 70% of the fee while the remaining 30% will be divided among his former clubs, Atlético Madrid, Atlético San Luis and San Lorenzo.

Wolves will now have to look elsewhere if they wish to sign a new striker in this window.
