‘Masters of the Universe’ Trailer Unleashes the Power of Grayskull with First Look at Jared Leto’s Skeletor

Masters of the Universe has finally unveiled its full first trailer, bringing Eternia to life in a way that has never been seen in live-action before. After Amazon MGM Studios released a nostalgia-driven tease on Wednesday, the trailer brings the power with Nicholas Galitzine’s He-Man set to battle the forces of Jarad Leto’s Skeletor to save his homeland.

There have been several attempts to bring Masters of the Universe to cinemas over the last two decades, but various directors and writers have failed to work out exactly how to transform the ’80s animated series into something that works for modern audiences, while also tapping into the nostalgic nerve of audiences that grew up with the original TV series and the cult classic Dolph Lundgren movie.

The task finally fell to Travis Knight, who has combined an Earthbound origin story and bombastic fully realized Eternia in a way that seems set to please as many fans from both sides of the coin, while potentially being able to pack out cinemas in a summer that is sure to be dominated by Spider-Man: Brand New Day and Supergirl. You can get your first thrilling blast of action from the trailer below.

‘Masters of the Universe’ is Looking to Surprise People

Masters of the Universe has already been battered on social media as an “MCU wannabe,” with some calling out how every big blockbuster movie looks and feels the same. But in many ways, if it ain’t broke, don’t fix it really could be a mantra of Hollywood.

However, several stars of the movie have already shared their thoughts on the film, including Morena Baccarin, who plays the Sorceress, and in an interview with MovieWeb said that she believes fans are in for a treat.

“I think Nicholas Galitzine is going to be incredible as He-Man. You know, people are going to be pleasantly surprised and have a great time watching the film. Yeah, I’m excited for you to be able to see it.”

Although it is too early to say for certain how the movie will be received when fans are able to see more than a couple of minutes of edited footage, early hype around Masters of the Universe has put it on the right track. Test audiences reportedly called the film “awesome” and “amazing,” and it seems that the release of the first trailer has drawn plenty of attention from both long-term fans and those who were not even born when He-Man first held aloft his magic sword and uttered those famous words. It seems that with this kind of reaction, the battle for summer blockbuster supremacy may just have become a little tighter than it was before.
