Quesnel Fire Department responded to a basement fire on Wednesday night

The Quesnel Fire Department responded to a residential structure fire on Arbutus Road on the evening of Wednesday, Jan. 21.
According to Fire Chief Ron Richert, fire crews were called to the scene at approximately 6:30 p.m. on Jan. 21. Upon arrival, firefighters encountered heavy smoke and flames coming from the basement area of the home.
Quick action by the firefighters extinguished the fire and contained it to the basement. Richert said crews remained on scene for approximately three and a half hours.
Quesnel Emergency Support Service was called to assist the residents of the home.
