Roger Denny emerges as frontrunner for OU athletic director position, ESPN reports

NORMAN, Okla. (KOKH) — The University of Oklahoma is considering Illinois University Deputy Director of Athletics Roger Denny as its new athletic director, ESPN reports.
According to Pete Thamel, College Football Senior Writer for ESPN, Denny has interviewed on OU’s campus twice.
Thamel says a deal is expected to be completed in the next few days.
OU officials were attracted to Denny’s legal background, Thamel reports, and they saw a skill set for the “new era” of college football.
That includes his handling of things like collective bargaining, private equity, and mergers and acquisitions.
Thamel said Denny’s last four years at Illinois included oversight of the football program as sports administrator.
OU’s current Athletic Director, Joe Castiglione, announced his retirement in July. Castiglione had been at OU since 1998.
