Arctic cold, snow at Denver Broncos playoff game

Bundle up, football fans — Colorado’s Front Range and Eastern Plains will stay well below freezing through the weekend, with a dusting of snow likely over Empower Field at Mile High as the Denver Broncos face the New England Patriots for the AFC championship on Sunday.
An arctic airmass is expected to hang around through Sunday, with high temperatures near 20 degrees and lows in the single digits for most of metro Denver and the Front Range, National Weather Service forecasters said in a hazardous weather outlook.
There’s a 60% chance of snow in Denver on Sunday, mostly after 11 a.m., but the storm is expected to drop a half inch or less, forecasters said. Wind gusts could make temperatures feel as cold as 3 below zero.
Colorado’s mountains are expected to see between 4 and 10 inches of snow on Saturday before the storm moves west, bringing anything from a light dusting to a few inches to the foothills and Front Range west of Interstate 25 on Sunday.
“The hazardous conditions will impact Saturday travel commutes, including ski traffic along the (Interstate 70) mountain corridor and U.S. 40 over Berthoud Pass,” forecasters wrote in a winter weather advisory.
A cold weather advisory is active for stretches of Larimer and Weld counties through Monday morning, noting “dangerously cold wind chills” could send temperatures plummeting to 16 below zero, quickly causing hypothermia or frostbite, forecasters said.
