Area warming stations open amid upcoming winter storm

AMARILLO, Texas (KFDA) – Several areas in both Texas and New Mexico will have warming stations open amid the winter storm and extreme cold.
211
Residents are encouraged to call 211 for information and referral service during the winter storm.
By calling 211, you can receive information about warming and emergency shelters, utility assistance, food and basic needs resources, transportation and other weather-related support services.
Faith City Mission
Faith City Mission in Amarillo is preparing to operate at full capacity and expand services to ensure no one is left out in dangerous weather conditions.
All available beds at the shelter are expected to fill quickly. When capacity is reached, the organization will deploy additional cots to accommodate more individuals.
In addition to overnight accommodations, Faith City Mission will keep its doors open during the day throughout periods of inclement weather. Individuals seeking a warm, safe space during daytime hours are welcome.
Guyon Saunders Resource Center
Amarillo’s Office of Emergency Management says warming shelters in Amarillo will be activated for the homeless and unsheltered population.
The Guyon Saunders Resource Center will be a warming station beginning all day Friday through Sunday afternoon.
If weather conditions remain severe, operations will be reassessed then.
The shelter will be run by the Community Development Department.
The City of Amarillo’s Coming Home team and Amarillo Housing First will also be patrolling to help residents get to a warm place.
Amarillo City Transit provides free transportation from the nearest bus stop to a shelter when temperatures drop below freezing.

Amarillo Salvation Army
The Amarillo Salvation Army will have shelter 24 hours a day at 400 S Harrison Street until the severe cold and winter storm threat has passed.
Amarillo Public Library
The Amarillo Public Library will also act as a daytime warming station.
The APL will be open:
- Monday–Thursday: 9 a.m. – 7:30 p.m.
- Friday–Saturday: 9 a.m. – 6 p.m.
- Sunday: 2 p.m. – 6 p.m.
Castro County Sheriff’s Office
The Castro County Sheriff’s Office in Dimmitt will be a warming station for anyone in need of a shelter and a warm place to stay.
On social media, Castro County Sheriff’s Office says with temperatures below 20 degrees and into the single digits, to refer anyone who needs shelter to them.
The shelter will open Friday at 5 p.m. through Thursday, January 29 at 7 a.m.
The Castro County Sheriff’s Office is located at 990 E. Bedford St. in Dimmitt.
Legacy Church in Portales
The Portales and Roosevelt Office of Emergency Management posted to social media that the Legacy Church in Portales will be an activated warming station.
The post says it is open to anyone who needs a warm place to stay.
This includes for unexpected power outages or need for additional care.
The hours will depend on how the weather progresses but will be open over the weekend.
Legacy Church is located at 820 W. 18th St. in Portales.
Code Blue Warming station
The Code Blue Warming station will be activating its warming shelter and is open to anyone in need of shelter.
Amarillo Housing First official says they are unsure how long the shelter will be activated but will span across multiple days.
The Code Blue Warming station is located at 207 N. Tyler St.
Tulia Volunteer Fire Department
The Swisher County Office of Emergency Management announced on social media that the Tulia Volunteer Fire Department will be the official warming shelter.
The shelter is open to anyone in need of a warm place to stay.

Clovis Police Department
From Friday, Jan. 23 through Sunday, Jan 25, the Clovis Police Department will open the lobby as an overnight warning center. The lobby will be available from 5 p.m. until 8 p.m. each day.
Nurstead Mental Health in Clovis
Nurstead Mental Health in Clovis has made their Drop-In Center at 713 Rencher available during the winter storm and has sleeping areas available from 10 p.m. until 6 a.m.
The center will be open 24 hours a day.
First Christian Church & First Baptist in Canadian
In Canadian both the First Christian Church and the First Baptist will be open for those who need to get out of the cold over the weekend.
This includes anyone whose heater does not work or anyone who loses power.
The First Baptist Church is located at 706 Main Street, and you can reach them at 806-323-8388.

Memphis Community Center
The Memphis Community Center is a designated warm station.
In case of a power outage, the Community Center has a backup generator for those that need power for medical equipment.
Stinnett Community Building and Fire/EMS Station
The Stinnett Community Building and Stinnett Fire/EMS station are on standby for possible shelter operations.
If needed these buildings will be used as warming stations for residents in need.
Armstrong County Courthouse & Emergency services building in Claude
The Armstrong County Courthouse and Emergency Services building are on standby as warming stations in the event of power outages or highway closures.
The courthouse is located at 101 Trice Street in Claude.

City of Borger
The City of Borger says Johnson Park Youth Center will open as a warming center in the event of a widespread/sustained power outage.
Official announcements regarding its activation will be communicated through the City.
Tucumcari Convention Center
In the event of power outages, the Tucumcari Convention Center is prepared to serve as a warming shelter.
The convention center is located at 1500 Bus US-54.
If the need arises additional shelters will be ready to open.
Pampa & Gray County
A warming station for Gray County and Pampa residents will be located at 301 North Cuyler Street.
An additional warming station has opened up for Gray County residents at 817 South Cuyler Street in Pampa.
This is the gym of the Grace Baptist Church in Pampa.
Miami & Roberts County
The Methodist Church, Annex. will act as a warming station for Miami and Roberts County residents.
This is in the event power is lost.
The church is located at 201 South Main Street in Miami.
Celebration Family Church in Fritch
The Celebration Family Church is an active warming station in Fritch.
The Church warming shelter will open Friday, 23 at 12:00p.m.
The church is located at 811 East Broadway in Fritch.

The Parmer County Sheriff’s Office and the Friona Police Department will act as temporary warming shelters for Parmer County residents.
The Sheriff’s Office is located at 300 4th Street in Farwell.
The Friona Police Department is located at 521 Euclid Avenue in Friona.
Ochiltree General Hospital
The Ochiltree General Hospital will provide assistance to oxygen dependent residents in the event a power outage occurs.
The hospital says oxygen tanks are limited but available and asks residents to bring their own concentrator, if possible.
The hospital is located at 3101 Garrett Dr. in Perryton.
Happy, Texas
A warming station has been set up at 110 W. Main St.

The Church of Christ in Panhandle is open as a warming station for Carson County residents.
The church is located at 207 E. 4th Street in Panhandle.

The First Baptist Church in White Deer is acting as a warming station for Carson County residents.
The church is located at 411 South Omohundro Street in White Deer.
First Baptist Church in Skellytown
The First Baptist Church in Skellytown is on standby as a warming station for Carson County residents.
The church is located at 306 Roosevelt St. in Skellytown.
First Baptist Church in Groom
The First Baptist Church in Groom is on standby as a warming station for Groom residents.
The church is located at 407 East First Street in Groom.
