Premier Commits to Fall Tuition Freeze at Memorial University

Premier Tony Wakeham says government is currently working out the details of a tuition freeze at Memorial University.

Education Minister Paul Dinn has said the freeze will take effect in the fall, unless MUN can show it’s addressing its fiscal challenges.

Wakeham, who says the freeze will happen this fall, can’t say how it will be done financially, or how much it will cost the province.

“That’s ongoing discussions that we’re having with Memorial and we’ll be happy to sit down with them and talk about the budget process,” he said. “The costing of that is being worked out right now. I don’t know the exact number but we’ll be factoring it into the budget.”
