Fire crews at scene of building fire in Shrewsbury town centre

A significant operation is underway in Shrewsbury town centre this morning following a large property fire on Castle Street that broke out in the early hours of this morning, 27 January.

Shropshire Fire and Rescue Service Control received a call reporting the fire at 3.22 am.

Seven fire appliances were mobilised to the scene, including specialist equipment such as the Aerial Ladder Platform and the Incident Command Unit.

Crews from Baschurch, Shrewsbury, Telford Central, Tweedale, and Wellington are all currently engaged in the incident, supported by senior Operations and Safety officers.

Castle Street has been closed to traffic and pedestrians while the incident remains ongoing. The closure is expected to cause significant disruption to rush-hour travel, including bus operators.
