Mees Rijks: Bristol Rovers sign striker from Norwegian club Valerenga

Bristol Rovers have signed Dutch striker Mees Rijks from Norwegian side Valerenga for an undisclosed fee.

Rijks spent the first half of the season on loan at Dutch second division club De Graafschap and has signed a deal until 2028, with an option to extend for a further season.

The 22-year-old is Rovers’ sixth addition of the January window as they look to avoid back-to-back relegations.

They are currently sitting just one point above the League Two drop zone after five defeats in their past six games.

“I love English football first and foremost; it’s a big city and Bristol Rovers is a big club with a lot of history. There is a lot of passion involved and I love that,” Rijks told the club website., external

In addition to Rijks’ arrival, Rovers have also announced that assistant head coach Rhys Carr has left the club.

Carr – who spent three matches as interim Coventry manager last season before the Sky Blues appointed Frank Lampard – moved to the Memorial Stadium in June as part of former boss Darrell Clarke’s coaching staff.
