Montreal Canadiens fire goalie coach Eric Raymond

The Montreal Canadiens announced on Wednesday that the team has relieved goalie coach Eric Raymond of his duties.

Marco Marciano will serve as interim goalie coach until the end of the season.

The Canadiens’ goaltenders have struggled with both Samuel Montembeault and Jakub Dobes recording sub .900 save percentages this season.

Montembeault is 9-8-2 with an .868 save percentage and 3.46 goals-against this season. His struggles this season led to an AHL conditioning stint with the Laval Rocket in December where he started two games before returning to the Canadiens.

Dobes has an .890 save percentage and 2.96 goals-against average in 23 games this season with a 16-5-3 record.

The Canadiens also recalled rookie goaltender Jacob Fowler in December, who went 4-4-2 in 10 appearances with a .902 save percentage and 2.62. He was returned to Laval on Jan. 16.

Montreal enters play Wednesday sitting in the top wild-card spot in the Eastern Conference and equal in points with the Buffalo Sabres for third in the Atlantic Division with one more game played.
