Champions League Matchday Preview: PSV Eindhoven vs. Bayern Munich

Thanks to last week’s 2-0 win over union Saint-Gilloise, Bayern Munich clinched a top four spot in the Champions League “league phase” table. A draw or win against PSV Eindhoven will secure second place. If Arsenal somehow loses to FC Kairat, Bayern will have a unique opportunity to finish atop the table. In any of these scenarios, Bayern will have an advantage until the quarterfinal round and likely the semifinal as well.
On the flip side, PSV will be hunting for points to avoid elimination from the Champions League. Currently sitting with eight points, PSV is stuck in a dense area of the table and will be searching for a major upset to sneak into the knockout phase. With all 18 matches being played simultaneously, PSV will not know if they have done enough until the final whistle.

Three things to know about Bayern
Three things to know about PSV
Bayern wins 2-1. After the first Bundesliga loss of the season, Bayern will come out on fire. Michael Olise will score a beautiful left footed shot from outside the box and Jonathan Tah will power in a header from an Olise corner kick. PSV will score early in the second half but both teams will be content to hold the scoreline for the final 30 minutes.
